Christopher H. Hartman DDS, MS
Meet Dr. Hartman
Dr. Christopher Hartman is a native of Central Iowa and grew up in the small community of Perry. Sports, music and sciences were always a fascination for him as he grew up and he always dreamed of being a doctor. After graduating high school he attended Saint John’s University on academic scholarship and competed in track and field. He earned his Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Biology, graduating summa cum laude. Dr. Hartman returned to Iowa to complete 4 years of dental school at the University of Iowa where he received his D.D.S (Doctor of Dental Surgery) with academic honors and graduated at the top of his class. He continued at the University of Iowa to complete a 2 year orthodontic residency and received his master’s degree in orthodontics.
Dr. Hartman feels fortunate to have been trained in one of the world’s best orthodontic programs at the University of Iowa. He was trained using the latest orthodontic technologies, including Invisalign, mini-screw implants, soft tissue lasers, indirect bonding, and use of Cone beam CT. Dr. Hartman regularly attends advance education courses and is always excited to see what new changes in technology and treatment are introduced to orthodontics.
While in his dental training, Dr. Hartman received several academic performance awards and scholarships and was inducted into OKU, a dental honor society. He worked on research with three distinguished orthodontists–Dr. Southard, Marshall, and Bonner–and a distinguished anthropologist, Dr. Holton, on the morphology of the chin in relationship to chewing forces while in dental school. During his orthodontic residency, Dr. Hartman continued to work with these same doctors on his master’s thesis which evaluated the relationship of nasal asymmetries and asymmetries of the mouth and face.
Dr. Hartman completed the process to become certified by the American Board of Orthodontists and is a proud to be a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontists. He is also a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Iowa Society of Orthodontists, Des Moines District Dental Society, and Midwestern Society of Orthodontists.
Dr. Hartman is happy to be back in central Iowa, and loves living in Des Moines. In his free time Dr. Hartman enjoys spending his time with family and friends, running, playing guitar, hiking, fishing, and just about any outdoors activity. His interests are always changing and developing with his growing family.
Dr. Hartman couldn’t be happier being an orthodontist and loves getting to know his patients and their families as well as the mixture of art, science, and critical thinking that the profession requires. Chris feels blessed to have the opportunity to help improve people’s lives by creating beautiful smiles and functional bites.
