Early Orthodontic Treatment

  • Central Iowa Orthodontics suggests having children’s teeth evaluated by one of our orthodontists at around 7 years of age or when the first few permanent teeth begin to erupt.
  • At this stage there are usually a mixture of permanent and primary (baby) teeth present. This allows the orthodontist to evaluate if there are any problems or concerns with development of permanent teeth and/or their pathway into the mouth.
  • While early treatment is often not needed, these complimentary consultations at a young age can provide a timeline for future orthodontic needs and help address those problems which might require interceptive treatment.
